Why Test Your Cat for Intolerances
Just like humans, cats can develop intolerances to various substances and allergens commonly found in our homes and surroundings. While some reactions are easily noticeable, such as skin rashes or digestive issues, others can be more elusive. In some cases, your cat may not exhibit visible symptoms but could still be affected by mood changes or an overall sense of discomfort and unhappiness.
It’s important to identify and address these intolerances or sensitivities because they can significantly impact your cat’s quality of life. Undetected intolerances may not only cause immediate discomfort but also potentially lead to more severe health problems in the long run. By proactively addressing these issues, you can help ensure your pet’s overall well-being and prevent any further complications.
Fortunately, there are tools available, such as the Cat Intolerance Test, that can assist in uncovering the specific substances or allergens to which your cat may be intolerant. This comprehensive test analyzes a wide range of potential triggers, including 148 different foods and 52 non-food items commonly associated with intolerances. By gaining insights into your cat’s sensitivities, you can make informed decisions about their diet and environment, allowing them to live a happier, healthier life free from the negative effects of unrecognized intolerances or sensitivities.
How the Test Works
The Cat Intolerance Test utilizes a laboratory-based genetic analysis to identify your pet’s sensitivity towards common substances that may be found in your home. To conduct this test, all you need to provide are hair samples from your cat. Once you order the test, a kit will be sent to your address, containing detailed instructions and a sample container, making the collection process simple and convenient.
To ensure successful sample collection, it’s important to follow these guidelines:
- When gathering fur samples, try to include the hair root whenever possible. If the root cannot be obtained, make sure to cut the hair as close to the root as you can.
- If the hair strands are longer than 1 inch, providing 5-6 strands will be sufficient for the test.
- You can take the samples from any part of your cat’s body, using fur from different areas.
By adhering to these guidelines and providing the necessary hair samples, you can easily contribute to the Cat Intolerance Test and gain valuable insights into your cat’s sensitivities and intolerances to substances commonly encountered in your home environment.
What is Included in the Report
Once you have sent your cat’s hair samples back to our laboratory, you can anticipate receiving the test results via email within 3 to 5 business days. The report you receive will provide a detailed breakdown of the specific intolerances your cat may have developed, shedding light on the substances that trigger adverse reactions in your pet.
Not only does the report highlight the intolerances, but it also serves as a practical guide to assist you in eliminating these triggers from your cat’s diet and environment. By following the recommendations provided, you can take proactive steps to create a safer and more comfortable living space for your furry companion.
It’s important to note that the test results only showcase items with a score of 85% and higher. This threshold is significant because it indicates the point at which your cat may begin to exhibit adverse symptoms and reactions. Any items that fall below this threshold will not be included in the report, allowing you to focus on addressing the most significant intolerances that directly impact your cat’s well-being.
Limitations of the Cat Intolerance Test
To ensure accurate results, it is recommended to wait until your cat is at least 6 months old before conducting the Cat Intolerance Test, as it is designed for cats on full adult meals.
Additionally, since the test does not involve blood samples, the results are not likely to be affected by most medications. However, if you have concerns about a specific medication or another test that your cat is undergoing, please inform us so that we can provide appropriate guidance and address any potential issues.
